Sphalerite is a zinc sulfide mineral that commonly forms in hydrothermal environments, often alongside minerals such as Quartz, Calcite and Galena. Where small crystals have been able to grow freely within cavities, sparkling druzy pockets can form, creating the beautiful contrast between polished and natural areas seen in these pieces.
