Often sold under the name Selenite, Satin Spar and true Selenite are actually different forms of the same mineral, Gypsum. Satin Spar has a fibrous structure and silky appearance, while true Selenite is typically more transparent and forms in clearer crystals.

Satin Spar commonly forms through the evaporation of mineral-rich water, allowing Gypsum to crystallise over time. Its parallel fibrous structure creates the distinctive pearly sheen and luminous appearance this mineral is known for.
